Children are apt to live up to what you believe of them.  It is my personal goal to coach and teach our students to be hard workers in the classroom and in athletics in order to represent the community of Fruitport in a positive way.

I have a love for reading and try to pass that on to my students. When children can read, they can do and understand many things because reading is a part of all school subjects.  

My name is Janelle Duffey and am excited to be the new principal at Shettler Elementary.  This is a new adventure in my life and am excited for all that it entails.  Let me start with a little background with my career in education.

I am the school psychologist at Shettler Elementary and Oakridge Lower Elementary.

I love building relationships with students and working together to figure out their strengths and weaknesses. We come in all shapes and sizes and I try to express that to my students in the way we learn together.

My passion for working in special education started with volunteering in a variety of special education classrooms, while I was in high school. That love has only continued to grow! I believe that all children bring something special to the table and are all capable of achieving their goals, no matter how long it takes to get to that end product.

I have enjoyed watching students come in and their journey to learning how to read and the excitement when they can read a whole book on their own and their choosing of a Genre that they enjoy.

Having the opportunity to come alongside students and watch them grow as individuals is one of my favorite parts of teaching! I love building relationships with each of my students to create a classroom environment that is welcoming, collaborative, and promotes learning.

I started as a bus aide in September of 2013.   I have always had a strong desire to help people and when this opportunity came up I thought it would be perfect.  Currently, I am working in the Shettler office as the school secretary. 

I am so excited to be a third-grade teacher and look forward to building positive relationships with my students.  As a teacher, I want to help my students gain the tools they need to be successful academically as well as outside of the classroom. My goal is to make learning fun, interactive and enjoyable for all of my students.

As an elementary music educator, I have the wonderful and important responsibility of introducing children to the beauty of music: how it can help you express yourself, build community, and belong to something bigger than yourself.

I am a Speech-Language Pathologist that provides services at the elementary and secondary level and believe communication is the essence of life!

I truly believe that as a teacher I have the best job in the entire world! I love fostering a love for learning and preparing them for the future. I love the community and family feel that my students bring to a classroom. Each student leaves an imprint on who I am as a person.

As an educator it is my goal to not only prepare children for the future, but instill a love of learning. There will always be more things to learn and new things to see.

I am the school social worker at Shettler Elementary. Before starting at Shettler I worked as an ABA therapist and a case manager. I have always enjoyed working with kids to be successful in whatever they do.

Hi!  I am Mrs. Newton and I love teaching!  I believe students learn best when they feel safe and cared about.  Building a sense of community in my classroom is an essential part of the learning process!

My journey with Fruitport Community Schools began in 1981 when I entered kindergarten.  Thirteen years later, when I graduated, I knew that I wanted to become a teacher. Every teacher I had, from kindergarten through twelfth grade, was my inspiration. I dreamt that one day I would work side by side with them giving back to the community that gave me so much.

My name is Madi, and I am a 5th grade teacher here at Fruitport. I believe strongly that building relationships with students is the key to their success! Fostering a space where my kiddos feel safe, respected, and cared for is what I'm all about.

 I chose to be a special education teacher, because I believe that ALL children can learn and deserve the opportunity to show the world what they are capable of doing!
