From the Principal

Greetings!  Thank you for visiting the Fruitport Middle School web page.  FMS serves over 600 students and their families.  My hope is that together, our staff and families can provide a middle school experience that prepares our students for high school and the rest of their lives in a safe, positive, and meaningful way.

The staff at FMS believe that all students have the ability to learn.  It is our job and responsibility as educators to meet the students where they are and help them grow in a learning style that fits each individual.  We follow a curriculum that will challenge students of all abilities.  Our goal is to have all students show growth throughout the year.To achieve this, we offer after school academic programs, math and language arts interventions, as well as Trojan Time during the day.

An area of focus at FMS is to create an environment where our students can learn and grow in a safe and encouraging way.  We challenge our students to live a life that LEADS, which includes Living with Integrity, Exercising Self-Control, Always being Respectful, Demonstrating Responsibility, and putting Safety First.  Knowing that a human brain doesn’t fully develop until its mid-twenties we have implemented PBIS (Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports) to help teach, reinforce, and support these principles through intentional behavior lessons, positive reinforcement, and monthly award celebrations.

Teaching the whole child is important to the staff at FMS.  Outside of our challenging core curriculum, we offer other learning opportunities including foreign language, band, choir, industrial arts, STEM, technology, art, and physical education.  FMS offers a large variety of interest clubs as well as interscholastic athletics as extra-curricular opportunities for students to participate in.  We believe that being a part of something bigger than yourself is an integral part of learning and growing into a positive and involved member of society.  We are confident that our students will find something extra to be a part of, but if they don’t we encourage them to join in creating the experience they are looking for.
