Fruitport Middle School Mission Statement The Mission of Fruitport Middle School is to empower students to become responsible, productive, life-long learners in a global society. We believe in promoting independent thinking, which allows students to become confident problem solvers and self-reliant earners in a safe, positive and healthy environment. Principal's Corner
As the last few weeks are flying by, we have many activities going on to keep our students busy into the summer. Track and girls’ softball are in full swing as well as Girls on the Run and Tennis Club. We are now offering an opportunity for students to learn how to play golf with Mr. Worst and Mr. Woodard two days after school. We are also getting ready for our third and final production of the FMS Drama Club. Their last performances will be held on May 3rd and 4th. We were thrilled to learn that Fruitport Middle School received national recognition as a “School to Watch” (STW) at the beginning of March. The National Schools to Watch is an organization committed to excellence in middle level education. Schools invite a team of educators from all around the state of Michigan to evaluate our educational programming in four areas: strong academics, developmental responsiveness, social equity and organizational structures and process. Fruitport Middle School was only one of three schools in the state this year to receive this prestigious award. Only a dozen schools in Michigan have received this award and nationwide, there are less than 300 middle schools who have been designated over the past 15 years. Our students enjoyed a big celebration on April 19th when the head of the state STW organization presented our Schools to Watch banner to our school. In addition to our superintendent and school board, a representative from State Senator Hansen’s office joined us for the event. We were especially pleased to have many of our parent volunteers attend as well. We held drawings for FMS t-shirts throughout the day and served our students seven hundred pieces of cake during lunch in honor of the event. Students, parents, staff and the greater Fruitport community should take a great deal of pride in this wonderful accomplishment. As the final weeks of the 2011 – 2012 school year begin to wind down, please remind your students about the importance of staying focused on their work and to avoid conflicts that could get them in trouble. Both the seventh and eighth grade classes have end of the year trips planned and students must be passing five out of six classes and have no suspensions in order to participate in these activities. Also, as the weather gets warmer, please review the dress code that can be found in our student code of conduct so students do not have to call home for a change of clothes. Finally, with the many changes that are coming to the middle school next year, it is only natural that parents are concerned about how this will affect their child. The staff at Fruitport Middle School is committed to continue to provide the very best educational experience possible for all of our students. I have appreciated the support I have received from many of you over the past several years and we plan to end this school year on a positive note. Thanks for all that you do to make Fruitport Community Schools a great place to learn!
