Art Course/Description
Open to: 9-12 Credits: .5 Duration: One Term Art I- Art I is open to any student in the high school who is interested in a basic art course. Class work emphasizes growth of the student’s creative and technical abilities in the area of drawing, design and the use of color. Open to: 9-12 Credits: .5 Duration: One Term
Ceramics- Ceramics is offered for any student in the high school who is interested in a basic ceramic course. Students will learn the basic hand building techniques, effective use of glaze and decoration methods. Creative use of the medium of clay will also be stressed.

Advanced Ceramics- Prerequisite: Ceramics/Permission of instructor. Advanced Ceramics is a class designed for those students seriously interested in exploring the creative possibilities of clay. Students will learn to work on the potters wheel, mold making and clay sculpture techniques.

Crafts- Crafts is a class open to any high school student interested in exploring a hands on craft experience in an atmosphere that is less formal than Art I class. The students will work with traditional and contemporary craft techniques including batik, paper mache, copper tooling, weaving, woodcarving and simple jewelry making.
Open to: 10-12 Credits: .5 Duration: One Term
Photography- Prerequisite: Art I/Permission from instructor. Photography is a class designed for the student who wishes to become proficient in the technical and creative aspects of the photographic medium. Students will learn how to use a camera, how to process film, and how to print black and white photographs. Students will need access to a camera using 35 mm film.

Drawing- Prerequisite: Art I Drawing class is for those students who are interested in building upon and expanding their artistic abilities. Students will become proficient in a variety of media and techniques while learning to use them as a means of self-expression and communication. Open to: 10-12 Credits: .5 Duration: One Term
Painting- Painting is a class designed for any student interested in art beyond the basic level. Students will gain experience in the use of watercolor, acrylics, and oils. Students will also learn to use this media in a creative and expressive manner.
Open to: 11-12 Credits: .5 Duration: One Term
Portfolio Class- Prerequisite: Art I, Drawing, or Painting and Permission from the Instructor. Portfolio Class is designed for any senior Art student who is serious about continuing the study of art upon graduation. The student and instructor will design a course of study with the goal of producing a body of artwork, which will be used to gain admittance into a college or for employment purposes. This course may be repeated for credit.
