Life Management Open to: 9-12 Credits: .5 Duration: One Term
Home and Family- This course of study takes a comprehensive and close up look at the family life cycle and its changing responsibilities. All families are examined, not just the traditional. We begin with a look at families around the globe and their interest in our environment. We will study relationships, communication skills, responsibilities of dating, planning a wedding, marriage relationships, families in crisis and death and dying.

Child Development I - This course takes an intensive and close up look at parent roles and responsibilities, family planning, marriage, current family trends, conception, prenatal development, birth defects, handicaps, birth and newborns.

Child Development II- This course studies physical, social, emotional intellective development of children birth through age 6. Brain development is emphasized throughout. Living Healthy- This class is an overview examining today’s major health issues. We are a product of our environment and need to pay close attention to lifestyle. We examine weight control, fat burning, and benefits of exercise, cardiovascular disease stroke, high blood pressure, diabetes, osteoporosis, cancer, substance abuse, eating disorders and other relevant factors. Student may have their cholesterol checked and body fat/body lean measured.

Hospitality Management and Culinary Arts- Prerequisite: Teacher Permission is required. Foodservice operations are one of the fastest growing industries in the United States. Students will gain practical hands-on knowledge and skills with a relevant and industry driven curriculum. We learn basic food preparation through practical application of running a weekly lunch program for the FHS employees. We also cater special events upon request. We cover crucial foodservice concepts such as customer relations, cost accounting, controlling food costs, and marketing
